I strive to make the very best instruments possible. I spend about 150 hours on each one, spread out over a year's time.
My present instruments are made on the order of Stradivarius. Each one is an original made using Antonio Stradivari's methods. A copy is a duplicate of an existing instrument. So far I have made only one copy, it being the 1690 Tuscan Medici viola. I take great care in every detail of my instruments' construction. The woods are properly cured and treated. The arching and graduations are artistically, mathematically and scientifically created. Only high quality ground hide glue is used in the instruments' construction. All measurements are carefully verified and adjusted to perfection. Each instrument is played in the white (without varnish) to verify its playability. Adjustments are then made to the graduations to fine tune the instruments playability. The finest of ingredients are utilized in making the varnish. This varnish is applied by brush. Usually about ten coats are put on. Once the instrument has been thoroughly hand rubbed and polished, the fittings are reapplied.
