Stradivarius 1692 B

It is my pleasure to introduce one of my most recent and finest hand made violins. This instrument was made on the order of a 1690s period long pattern Stradivarius. It was formed on a copy of the Stradivarius 1692 B mould.

The most striking aspect of this violin is its 150-year-old curly maple 2-piece back. The transparent and magnifying qualities of the varnish have worked magic by allowing the woods beauty to reach its full potential. The top was fashioned from a superb 85-year old piece of spruce. These old woods were once in the possession of Edgar G. Rockwell son of the renowned Joseph H. Rockwell.

I have incorporated several details on this violin to give it a vintage appearance, the most important aspect being its grafted neck. The 150-year-old scroll wood has been wed to a 10- year-old piece of Bosnian maple. The peg holes have also been bushed and redrilled. An ebony crown has been installed along with a piece of purfling where the ribs meet at the endpin. The varnish is lightly shaded and worn to simulate several years of gentle playing. Its tender, sound enhancing, amber-brown varnish is made from a combination of oil and spirit ingredients.

The tone is full, resonate, and perfectly even. Its playing characteristics are excellent, making it well suited for soloist performance. I have installed Italian snake wood fittings along with D'Addario Helicore strings.

This violin is no longer for sale as it belongs to a master musician!
